About AltGen

AltGen writes accessible, SEO-ready alt text for thousands of images at once — from a dashboard, a CSV, a page scan, or a single API call.

Why we built this

Every team with a real image library ends up writing alt text by hand, one image at a time — or skipping it entirely. It is tedious, it does not scale past a few hundred images, and it is usually the first thing cut when a launch deadline hits.

AltGen exists so that stops being a manual job. Point it at a folder, a CSV, or a URL, and it turns a backlog of untagged images into accessible, search-friendly content in minutes instead of days — in whatever language your customers actually read in.

What it does

A vision AI model looks at each image and writes a description based on the industry preset, writing style, and target languages you choose — up to 30 languages per image. Bring images in by uploading files, pasting URLs, importing a CSV, or pointing the built-in scraper at any page. Review and edit results in the dashboard, export to CSV, or pipe everything straight into your stack through webhooks or the REST API.

The team

AltGen is built by Abdullah Mara, an engineer who has spent years building tools around images and documents — MarkupGo (HTML to PDF and image generation) and LoveBoard (customer testimonial collection) among them. The same pattern kept showing up: teams with a real content backlog reach for a manual workaround or skip the job, because nothing purpose-built existed for it. AltGen is the purpose-built version for alt text.

AltGen is operated by Better Version, Inc., a Delaware corporation, and is still early — built in the open based on what real users need.
